This is Shohei Takarada from the high school pro-wrestling manga series “Pro-Wrestling Koushien”.

Extra Notes:

The manga series that was primarily responsible for sparking my interest in creating pro-wrestling fan art was Pro-Wrestling Koushien. Though there have been a lot of pro-wrestling manga series in the past, this manga struck me the most because its story is similar with many of the popular shonen manga series of this generation. Its main character is also relatively younger than the other puroresu manga, so I could somehow relate more to him. What I also like about this manga series is that they also featured many pro-wrestling holds that left me in awe over how they were interpreted in the modern shonen manga style. That’s why I decided to pay tribute to it.

This is actually my second time to draw Shohei Takarada. I tried drawing him last year. Though I personally liked it at the time, I think the newer version is significantly better than the previous one. I’m glad that this showed how much I’ve improved over the years in my drawing skills.

I also opted to use two versions this time around: the portrait version and the King of Manga Pro-Wrestling version. The former is intended to give a better view of what I’ve actually drawn, while the latter is intended to pay tribute to the series in my trading card parody.
