In 2022, it’s time to be radical by spreading love in a world filled with corruption and misinformation.
And that’s the bottomline because the Kakampinks said so.

This was an idea that came to my mind recently in the past few days in response to the various groups that were sprouting out on social media in support of the 2022 presidential bid of Vice-President Leni Robredo.
I know that beneath their love for pro-wrestling, many pro-wrestlers and pro-wrestling fans want a change from the incumbent government. Pro-wrestlers, in particular, have not been able to hold shows since February 2020.
The image itself is derived from the various pro-Leni group images that were circulating on Twitter. As such, I don’t claim full ownership of this picture.
In making this image, I never really thought about actually organizing the group itself since I can’t do that at the moment. My aim at this point is really to just to inspire the the pro-wrestling community in the Philippines to show their support for VP Leni Robredo. If this does lead to someone else organizing a group, especially among the pro-wrestlers, that would be awesome.
And as mentioned, I intended this to be noticed by the pro-wrestling community in the Philippines. I didn’t expect someone like the historian and former Cabinet undersecretary Manolo Quezon to notice my art. So that’s a bonus for me, and for the pro-wrestling community in general.

Extra Notes:
One obscure character that has always interested me is Takaharu Ogami, the pro-wrestler in Detective Conan who also goes by his masked wrestler persona Wolf Face. Sure, he isn’t a significant character in the long-running series, but it still thrills me that my favorite anime series had a pro-wrestler character and a couple of pro-wrestling episodes. I’ve drawn Ogami back in 2016, but I thought it’s about time I drew him again.
This time around, I decided to draw him both as Wolf Face and as his unmasked persona. After all, that particular episode was focused on the Wolf Face character, so I might as well draw that pro-wrestling persona instead.
I also decided to highlight the fictional pro-wrestling promotion he was under: Teito Pro-Wrestling. (The word 帝都 roughly translates to “imperial capital”, but the anime series used the name “Teito” instead.)
I’m hoping I could at least draw Wolf Face and/or Takaharu Ogami in a wrestling match in the future, as well as make a series of fan art centered around Teito Pro-Wrestling. As much as it thrilled me to see a pro-wrestling themed episode in Detective Conan, it’s a bit frustrating that they never actually let Wolf Face/Ogami wrestle.

The year 2020 was a stunning year for all of us, but for all the wrong reasons. The global pandemic has changed the lives of virtually everyone in this world.
Many have wished for the end of the year 2020, but the end of 2020 does not mean the end of the battle that we had to face in this difficult year. The battle will continue in 2021, and its impact will continue to be felt in the years to come. That is why my wish for the new year is for everyone to be strong.
In making this piece, I originally conceptualized it using a move that had the word “strong” in it, similar to the manner I conceptualized my past New Year’s Day greetings. However, the untimely death of AEW star Brodie Lee (also known as WWE’s Luke Harper) led me to redraw an old lariat illustration I had to make it resemble his signature move, the discus lariat.
My reason for changing it is that Brodie Lee’s death and its impact to people in the past few days helps me understand further my wish for “a strong 2021”. He was a strong wrestler whom we did not expect to go down with a disease at his prime, much less die from it. One could just imagine how much he tried to be strong in dealing with this for his family, and how his family had been strong for him as well. e learned in the past few days how much he loved everyone around him and how people have sought each other’s strengths in processing their grief over his death.
Many people have had similar experiences in 2020. So many lives were lost, and so many lives were changed. All we can do at this point is to be strong. That is what I hope people will be able to do as we start a new and uncertain year.
May you be blessed with physical, emotional, and mental strength, as we wrestle with the challenges that await us in 2021.

September 10 was dubbed among Japanese fans of Detective Conan as Kudo Day. I had planned on joining in on the celebration by submitting a new wrestling artwork featuring Shinichi. Though the day has already passed this year, I decided to press on with the artwork.
I opted to draw Shinichi performing a German Suplex as a form of shout-out to Konosuke Takeshita, a top pro-wrestler for the Japanese wrestling promotion DDT Pro-Wrestling, as well as a self-confessed Detective Conan fan. Similarly, I also based the tights of Shinichi on Takeshita’s own tights.
Because I based Shinichi’s pro-wrestling persona here on Takeshita, I also chose to design the background to make it similar in appearance to a typical house show in DDT Pro-Wrestling.
Shinichi’s opponent in this piece was intended to be Heiji Hattori, a popular character in the Detective Conan series. Since his looks aren’t too obvious here, I chose not to highlight it too much.

I told myself I would draw a woman someday for Manga Pro-Wrestling. But I never thought I’d end up drawing the legendary Filipino superheroine Darna.
This piece is in response to recent events surrounding my country. I don’t specifically advocate actual physical violence, but since this is Manga Pro-Wrestling, I’ve opted to use pro-wrestling as a metaphor of sorts.
This piece was alternatively titled Darna Disarms the Dictator. Aside from the beautiful alliteration in the title, this is a nod to the wrestling move presented in this piece: the Disarmer of WWE’s Becky Lynch.
But like what I said, I don’t advocate actual physical violence. The way I see it, we have government officials who abuse their power to beat down its citizens, misinform the public through shameless propaganda, and mishandle the crisis taking place in the country. As such, they need to be “disarmed”, or have their power taken away from them.
The Darna here is slightly modeled after Angel Locsin, who arguably was the best actress to play Darna. This is pretty much my first time to draw a woman in this site, so I hope it turned out alright.
As for The Turtle? I’m keeping my mouth shut on that.
