I find it very interesting that the birthdays of Eijun Sawamura and Youichi Kuramochi are so close to each other. Sawamura’s fictional birthday is on May 15, while Kuramochi’s is on May 17. And since I already did a pro-wrestling fan art in Sawamura’s birthday, I thought it would be great to have one as well for Kuramochi’s birthday.
For this piece, I decided to draw the pro-wrestling move known as the Campana. I wanted to draw a move that could emphasize how superior Kuramochi is to Sawamura in terms of wrestling ability, since he did have actual wrestling experience prior to being a high school baseball player. I thought the Campana was perfect for this. You have Kuramochi dominating the match so well that all Sawamura could do is be left helpless, as he is dangling in mid-air at the mercy of his senpai. And personally, I thought that storyline is fantastic.

I haven’t really watched Ace of Diamond that much. However, I did notice how popular Ace of Diamond has been over the past few years, especially with the release of the anime adaptation. One thing that interested me is that one of its characters, Youichi Kuramochi, has a previous background in wrestling before transitioning to high school baseball. As a result, he would often wrestle playfully with the main character Eijun Sawamura, which usually ended up with Kuramochi beating the crap out of Sawamura. And since I’ve been doing wrestling-themed fan art for quite a while already, I thought it would be cool to draw one for Ace of Diamond, especially since Kuramochi actually knows how to wrestle.
For this piece, I decided to let Sawamura dominate Kuramochi with the Cobra Twist. There are a few reasons behind this. First, it’s in celebration of Sawamura’s fictional birthday (May 15), so I thought it would be a good opportunity to let him beat Kuramochi in his own game for once. Aside from that, the Cobra Twist is significant because Kuramochi had applied that move to Sawamura in the past, so it would make sense for Sawamura to learn that move and try it out himself. Besides, it’s a very popular move in Japan, so it wouldn’t be that far-fetched.
The interesting thing is that just days from now, Kuramochi will have his own fictional birthday (May 17). And do you really expect this fan art to just end here?
