Last year, I tried to start a sideline Gumroad business, with the hopes of selling digital art featuring pro-wrestling moves. I launched that project by selling an illustration featuring two pro-wrestlers and one of them using the camel clutch.
However, the response went way below my expectations, and I shelved that project of mine. However, I felt that it would be a shame if that drawing never saw the light of day. As such, I’ve decided to post the drawing here for everyone to view for free.
In conceiving this piece, I decided to experiment in several ways, mainly in designing the characters. I did base them off certain people (whose identities I will not reveal), but I also wanted to try and check how I can make it look better if I was not limited to how those people looked in real life.
The desire to experiment is also why I opted for an outdoor event setting. I wanted to go beyond what I have been accustomed to doing.
Although the Gumroad project is pretty much a dud at this point, I still hope I can relaunch it in the future.

Tarantadong Kalbo is a Filipino-based artist known for his satirical cartoons, especially in response to current events in the Philippines. Recently, he launched an open art collaboration on his social media pages in time for his birth month. Everyone is invited to collaborate with him by completing an unfinished half-body drawing of his main character. As a fan of his political satire art, I decided to join in on the fun.
Since I’m more inclined with pro-wrestling themed art, I decided to turn the character into a masked luchador. And since the artist calls himself Tarantadong Kalbo, I opted to give him a new pro-wrestler name: El Tarantado.
Character wise, I don’t really have a lot to add to the profile. But hey, maybe Tarantadong Kalbo himself can add his own twist to his new unoffical luchador alter-ego.

Extra Notes:
In DeviantArt, one recurring original character in the boxing art community is Jin Sakata, a character conceptualized by Rising Phoenix. Naturally, most of the artworks featuring him involve the sport of boxing. However, the creator also wanted to explore Jin in a wrestling match-up. And so this commissioned piece was introduced.
Much of the piece was drawn based on the instructions from the creator, while the background was something I conceptualized myself. It was a bit of a challenge, especially considering that this was an art commission. But in the end, I think it turned out okay. And it looks like Jin can take a break from knocking out guys with punches and can start knocking out guys with sleepers.

On May 23, 1904, the first World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship was held in Vienna, Austria. More than a century later, May 23 is now celebrated by many wrestlers around the world as World Wrestling Day.
This is the fifth year in which this event is being celebrated. Unlike last year, though, I wasn’t able to make a brand-new drawing for this event. However, I decided to simply recolor the piece that I had done last year.
Admittedly, this makes the picture look a little bit more like a Valentines card. On the other hand, I guess this would be a love letter of sorts for lovers of wrestling.

I’ve always wanted to draw the original Pixiv character Blue Thunder Mask (BTM) in a wrestling match. In the same way, I also wanted to draw his alter ego Senpai in a match as well. And for both personas, I wanted Ryotaro Morino to be involved in their wrestling bout. As such, this piece was formed.
It’s been a long time since there were any male vs male wrestling matches involving these two, much more a match between them. That’s why it’s a thrill to finally get them to wrestle again.
At this point, I want to thank BTM’s original creator for allowing me to draw his characters in a wrestling match. And hopefully, I can make more drawings with these two wrestling each other in a match. After all, there are way more wrestling holds out there aside from a simple headlock.

Over at DeviantArt, nicehunter commissioned a series of wrestling artworks to 09tuf featuring his characters Tim and Dave. Admittedly, those artworks were really well done. There were just two problems: first, some of the art ain’t PG. And secondly, the characters were furry.
The first problem has one easy solution: don’t post it in my site. Like I said before, this is a PG site (especially since I realized lately that some kids actually like my work on Facebook). For the second problem, the solution was simply to turn them into human characters. And thankfully, there really are human versions of those characters.
I chose this drawing because the Cobra Twist (Abdominal Stretch) one of my favorite pro-wrestling holds. 09tuf really did a good job of drawing this piece, and I’m glad to give this some new life. Later, I plan on using the other drawings in the Tim vs. Dave series.
Now you may be a bit distracted by the familiar background. You might even be thinking. “Hey, that looks like some underground wrestling organization owned by a wildcat kid or something.” Well, let’s just say it was an inspiration for this background. Anyway, as nicehunter to me himself, this wrestling ring would be perfect for these two. 😀

Recently, I’ve been recoloring some of 09tuf’s lineart pieces in an effort to give new life to his drawings. One of those lineart pieces was this picture of Sage Andrews (an OC of DeviantArt user nicehunter) and Spencer Lockhart (the OC of brifight, also from DeviantArt) putting each other in a test of strength for their wrestling match.
In the original colored version, Sage was actually in his animal form. That’s not really what I’m interested, though, so I decided to try and turn Sage into his human form. Thus, this piece was formed.
Also, in the original colored version, the two boys decided to wrestle each other inside a shower room. But this is Manga Pro-Wrestling, and that kind of stuff won’t see the light of day here. So instead, I placed them inside a certain underground wrestling garage, just right before it started to get a huge ring makeover. And I’m pretty impressed with the result.
So I hope you guys enjoy this piece.

Extra Notes
BTM, also known as Blue Thunder Mask, has captured my interest for many years. I thought he was a well-designed pro-wrestler character whenever I see him on pixiv. I also thought it was cool that he has a masked version (as BTM) and an unmasked version (as Aono-senpai or Aono the Senior). Lastly, I really enjoyed seeing him in action in the wrestling ring, even though it’s mostly in mixed matches.
After many years of seeing him as a familiar face in the pro-wrestling fan base in pixiv, I decided that I would draw the character myself, in time for the birthday of its original creator.
At this point, I want to thank BTM’s original creator for allowing me to draw his character. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without his blessing.
I’m also happy to share that I’ve also been given permission to draw BTM in a match against another character, Ryotaro Morino (守野 涼太郎). I hope to draw that match in the near future.
