It’s been 5 years since I officially began the Manga Pro-Wrestling website. A lot has happened in those five years, and I definitely didn’t imagine how much the general concept of the site has evolved through the years. To commemorate the site’s 5th anniversary, I decided to re-draw the first drawing I ever did for Manga Pro-Wrestling.
The first drawing I ever did for this site was Eren Yeager locking Jean Kirstein in Daniel Bryan’s Lebell Lock (also known back then as the Yes Lock). Technically, it was made back in 2014, before I even set up this site. But I regard this drawing as the one that really got this whole site started.
Seeing the 2014 version from the 2020 version makes you look back on how things were so different for me back then. I wasn’t too familiar with my current go-to graphics programs at the time, so it took a while for me to edit it and make it look clean and presentable. Also, the original piece was dependent on a laptop for editing, while the new one has allowed me to make more use of my smartphone.
Apart from the glaring difference in my drawing skills, this piece was somewhat a product of its time. For starters, it encapsulated the massive popularity of Daniel Bryan in the WWE at the time, which was cemented by him winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 30 a few months later.
This piece also signified the massive popularity of the Attack on Titan series at the time, which would later go on to expand various other platforms. Back then, Eren vs. Jean was a rivalry that dominated various fan groups, so it was a good chance for me to build a fictional wrestling rivalry out of it. Also, I never would’ve guessed how much Eren and Jean would change their appearance years later. Since it’s a redraw, I opted to use their previous looks instead.

It’s Christmas time, and the year 2017 is about to end. As such, I wanted to make sure I could make an art piece that could serve as my gift for you guys, as well as one that would serve as a year-ender for 2018. I had a lot of ideas, but ultimately I chose to bring back Eren vs. Jean.
For this piece, I decided to redraw the abdominal stretch drawing that I made for Eren vs. Jean drawings way back in 2014. This was actually one of the earliest drawings I’ve ever made for Eren vs. Jean.
For a long time, I’ve always wanted to do the piece again because I felt that it needed a lot of improvement. The Cobra Twist (Abdominal Stretch) was also one of my favorite wrestling moves, so I wanted to make sure that I could draw it properly.
Also, there were some people who wanted to see Eren vs. Jean back again, so this serves as a way of testing the waters for a possible rematch between the two characters.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this piece. Merry Christmas and a happy 2018 to everyone!
P.S. So you really wanna see Eren vs. Jean again?

When AJ Styles wrestled for NJPW a few years ago, I had a hunch that his Styles Clash would get over among pro-wrestling fans. That was the key reason why I chose to use it in my 2014 illustration series Manga Pro-Wrestling: Eren vs. Jean 2. True enough, it did become very popular, so the piece did get a lot of hits.
However, it looks as if a lot of people only noticed the black-and-white version that I posted individually in Pixiv and DeviantArt. I’m not too sure if they realized that they could have seen the colored version in Eren vs. Jean 2. That’s why I decided to redo this piece a bit.
This time, I changed the colors to give it a WWE SmackDown Live atmosphere since AJ Styles is now in the WWE. That, by the way, still bewilders me since I’ve never thought AJ would go to the WWE.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this piece.

Months ago, I ordered a commission from 09tuf for a lineart drawing of Eren Yeager and Jean Kirstein. After doing the Eren vs. Jean series, I was interested to see how other artists would interpret the Eren vs. Jean feud, or at least the pro-wrestler versions of the two characters. And since it’s Eren’s birthday today, I thought it’d be a good time to release this piece.
I opted to use Keiji Mutoh’s “Natural Born Master” gimmick for this piece, since it was one of the alternate gimmicks I assigned to Eren (aside from the Hiroshi Tanahashi-inspired gimmick). I think the title fits him well, because he did come out as a very strong person and a top student in the Survey Corps, which should at least be influenced by his genes. On the other hand, he wasn’t exactly a natural fighter in the beginning of the series, so I guess that’s where the gimmick falls apart. Then again, we could always say that it was just something inside of him waiting to be unlocked. So whatever, he’s a “Natural Born Master”!

In celebration of Eren Yeager’s fictional birthday on March 30, as well as the Wrestlemania season, I decided to draw this piece. To shake things up, I decided to put him against Reiner Braun.
The move here is called the Sol Naciente, which is essentially a straight jacket triangle choke. This is a submission hold often used by Masato Yoshino, a pro-wrestler from Dragon Gate. I chose this move because I thought it looked pretty cool and unique. Aside from that, I have wanted to try drawing this unique yet complex move a few years ago, so I’m glad to have finally done so.
At the moment, there are no plans to expand further on this. I’m a bit more focused with Pro-Wrestling MAJOR and other planned projects. However, you are always welcome to give constructive feedback.
For now, happy birthday, Eren Yeager! And happy Wrestlemania season to everyone!

As part of my upcoming project, I decided to re-draw Eren Yeager as “One Man of Talent” Hiroshi Tanahashi. I really enjoyed making this Attack on Titan & NJPW crossover, and I’m glad that Tanahashi himself liked the idea as well.
So how did I come up with this crossover idea? After I conceptualized Jean Kirstein as Kazuchika Okada, I decided to look for the best match for Eren Yeager. And since the legendary Okada vs. Tanahashi rivalry was fresh in my mind at that time, I thought Tanahashi was the perfect fit for Eren. It makes sense anyway, since they’re both the ace of their respective worlds. And yes, they’re also once in a century talents. Just as Tanahashi sees Okada as a rival, Eren and Jean feel the same for each other.
And when you think about it, Eren and Tanahashi are both titans as well, with Eren being able to become a Titan, and Tanahashi being an unquestionable titan in Japanese pro-wrestling.
When I first shared the idea on Twitter, I kinda hoped Tanahashi would like the piece I made then. I never thought he’d actually repost it as well. That moment will always stand out as one of the most overwhelming things to happen to me this year. It makes me wonder if he’ll like this piece as well.
The last time I drew Eren as Tanahashi was back in May this year. In this version, Eren’s body structure is much more faithful to the anime version. And personally, I really like this piece a lot more than the original one, because Eren actually looks like Eren. But just like my Jean drawing, I wasn’t too faithful with the design of Tanahashi’s outfit, because it was too complex for me. (And last time I checked, I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.)
Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy this piece.

English Notes:
This piece was made primarily in celebration of Keiji Mutoh’s 30th anniversary in the pro-wrestling business. And choosing Eren to don Mutoh’s attire was just a no-brainer for me.
You have a guy who’s so tough that he took part in the bloodiest pro-wrestling match of all time — and won it. On the other hand, you have a guy who already cheated death once, and endured extremely rough beatings while still being able to rise up from it. Sure, the latter case only got to do that because of his newfound Titan powers, but still, both of them are pretty bad-ass.
Plus, Eren does have some moments when he would lose his marbles, especially out of anger to the Titans. That really sounds reminiscent of Mutoh’s other popular persona, The Great Muta.
And Eren was sometimes dubbed as the “suicidal” type because of how much he’s willing to go through in order to defeat Titans. That’s also struck me a lot, because Mutoh can really look deadly and “suicidal” with his moves, especially during his prime.
Besides, if I really wanted to draw an Attack on Titan character performing a Shining Wizard, he’s the one I immediately think of. So why the heck not?
