A few years ago, a wrestler from a Filipino pro-wrestling promotion was reacting to criticism that most of the Filipino wrestlers in the promotion cut promos in English, instead of using the Filipino language. According to him, it couldn’t be helped because Filipino pro-wrestling culture has always utilized the English language. It kinda left a mark on me because I felt that if you’re going to start a pro-wrestling promotion in a country, you have to actually use the language used by the masses.

And that became a catalyst for my newest project: Bisaya Pro-Wrestling.

This new project of mine will feature original characters wrestling each in the pro-wrestling ring. But the catch is that they will interact in the Bisaya language (or technically speaking, Binisaya). This is one of the languages that comprise the national Filipino language.

So why did opt specifically for the Bisaya language? Well, it’s because the Bisaya language has a uniquely tough quality to it that, I believe, makes it perfect to use in a pro-wrestling setting.

And this leads us to one more concern: What is Kasag? Simply put, kasag is a Bisaya term for crab. (Actually, it’s more of a Sugbuanong Binisaya term, but I’ll just leave it at that.) And I really think Kasag sounds like a cooler name for the hold.
